Respiro | Breath
‘Respiro’ (‘Breath’ in English), is the link that unites us to life, to the world and to ourselves.
Each inhalation fills us with energy, each exhalation releases us from tensions. Breath is the link that connects us to the present, to the here and now. Breath grounds us to the present, to the here and now. Breath is the key that opens us to spirituality, to the deepest dimension of our being. With every breath we invoke the Sacred, in every silence we hear the answer. Breath is the gift that makes us feel alive, loved and united.
a new approach to video mapping
'Respiro’ is a new videomapping project resulting from the collaboration between the experience of Zuth and Bea (Antica Proietteria) and the audiovisual contents of Sandro Bocci and Mishikatomo (Julia Set Lab). This work was created in a completely new way, designed and realized with live-action footage without any use of CGI or 3D effects.
Thanks to the initial idea of Zuth, who thought of a new way of creating an architectural videomapping starting from a miniature of the building and shooting live-action directly on the miniature structure. The occasion to experience this process for the first time was the call for the Tokyo Lights 2023 - 1 Minute Project Mapping Competition festival.
We started from the scale design of the Meiji Jingu Gaien Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery and created several miniatures with laser cuts. The facade of the gallery which is 250 meters long has thus been replicated and reduced to a few cm. On this model we have carried out the experiments in fluid dynamics, cymatics and other practical effects that we have experienced over the years. We started with a series of shorts circuit on a layer of steel wool wrapped around the model and then moved on to fluid dynamics by dipping the model into various containers.
The resulting images are a fusion of the building and visual experiments that would be impossible to achieve on such a massive scale. We believe that these types of images have a visual force unmatched by computer graphics and they lend themselves to an immersive experience which is rich of the enigmatic reverberations of the unexpected.
We have thus discovered a new and exciting way to create content through new technologies and we are excited to perfect these new processes on upcoming occasions in the future.
Thanks to the organization of the 1 Minute Project Mapping Competition festival for selecting us among the finalist works.
